Review 11: Starbound

What is Starbound?

Starbound is a 2d open world sandbox similar to Terraria. To sum up the game it's kinda like Terraria but in space. Flying a spaceship from planet to planet the game has so many different locations to go to, this is also amplified thanks to the modding community (for example the Frackin' Universe mod). You get thrown into the game quite quickly, due to your home planet being attacked by an entity known as The Ruin who forced you to fly into space to escape your impending doom. One great thing about the game is character creation, there are multiple races to pick from and each having different cultural styles and specific appearance. Each of them being:

Apex - Style Dystopian, Apelike.

Avian - Style Mesoamerican, Birdlike.

Floran - Style Tribal, Plantlike.

Glitch - Style Medieval, Robotic.

Human - Style Modern, Just humans.

Hylotl - Style Japanese, Amphibian.

Novakid - Style Wild-Western, Starlike.

Doing main story quests you fight different bosses based on the some of the same races you can play as, ending off with a face off with The Ruin itself. Another topic I can talk greatly about is the creativity that comes with the game. Yes you can go to planets, build whatever you want whatever you want. But, you can also build and upgrade your own spaceship and drive mech into outer space.

What brought me into Starbound?

Space and Terraria. I love space and I was an avid Terraria fan, when I saw Starbound on the steam store that mentioned it's similar to Terraria I had to try it out. It was a great idea.

Where can you play it?

Steam

Would I recommend it?

Yes, if you’re an avid fan of the survival sandbox type games like Terraria and Minecraft or just have a love for exploring space and many different planets I would recommend this game to you.

10/10
