Tumblr (i’m stuck in a love-hate relationship…)
An actual site for blogging! Wow.
Tumblr to me is great because of tags. You can use them in a more traditional way or you could use them like how they should be used….. Using them to post your unhinged thoughts that drip down your forehead like thick sweet nectar. These are so much fun you have no idea. I enjoy both having an easier time showing my posts to the right people and showing off the weird shit that I'm too embarrassed to put on others' blogs.
Not only does Tumblr have tags, but it also has profile customization. It's so much fun just to decorate your blog for others to see. You can make it easier (or harder) for others to see your posts by customizing your profile however you want! Nothing can stop you, and if you don’t know how to write css you could always use templates that others have made.
But I’m gonna stop dickriding for a moment. Tumblr has a very big issue that I feel are so big that I have a hard time fully enjoying the site and the community.
The staff and CEO are fucking braindead.
Tumblr has been having horrible issues recently when it comes to how the site is managed. The UI has been forced to look more like Twitter to capitalize on its screw ups thanks to ol’ Musky. This doesn’t sound so bad except that it massively homogenizes Tumblr to look like other social media. It also makes it glitchy and some parts horribly inaccessible for disabled users.
Not only does the UI look terrible, but the mod team just hates trans people? Especially trans women? They will randomly ban trans women for being ‘too trans’ or they will mark their blogs as ‘explicit’ even when THERE IS NO EXPLICIT MATERIAL. They will just mark your blog as explicit if you dare bring up trans issues or the transmisogyny that is rampant on Tumblr. Being marked as ‘explicit’ is a death sentence for blogs. It makes them both unviewable to minors (Reminder, NO EXPLICIT MATERIAL) and unviewable on the iOS app. Overall, Tumblr is not great for trans women.
Tumblr has also been known to block posts about the genocide going on in Gaza. This is not uncommon on social media sites, but it stings even more with Tumblr. The site loves to parade itself as progressive but when real tangible oppression is going on, it does nothing but censor it. It feels disingenuous.
I love the Tumblr community, but the website overall is known as a hellsite for a reason
Pros:
- Made for Blogging
- Profile Customization
- Tags my beloveds
- Can customize the communities you’re in easier compared to other sites
- Actually lovely community (from my experience)
Cons:
- Staff fucking suck, full of terfs and swerfs
- CEO is an oversensitive crybaby who harassed a trans women even after banning her
- Faux activism aplenty from the site
- Awful UI (You can fix it thanks to a lovely patch by pixiel you can get here)
SpaceHey (bias alert….)
We all know what this section is gonna be about. I’m not afraid to admit that this is stupid. You’re on Spacehey if you’re reading this so this may feel unnecessary but whatever.
I love SpaceHey. I was too young to fully appreciate the older internet which includes MySpace so this is the only way for people my age to fully enjoy it.
I’m gonna keep this short cause you can all probably know what im gonna say.
Pros:
- Profile Customization!
- Friendly Community
- Built in blog system
- Historical value
- No Ads
Cons:
-Smaller community so it's a bit harder to build a mainstream following
- Can get a bit slow at points
Conclusion
it‘s 12:00AM where i am and i woke up at 6am today. Im too tired to write a proper conclusion. Enjoy i guess.

Yeah, you summed it up well! I will say, check out Bear Blog! It's a really simple blogging site, I've been using it in tandem with SpaceHey and I love how different the atmosphere is.
