I keep on seeing people around my age keep on posting these "social media detox." And it got me thinking. We all have such different backgrounds, but it seems that social media has really blended us together. While it can be a good thing to, you know, feel conntected to your peer- even if that means someone thousands of miles away from you. But it made me think how social media has affected me. I've been on social media since i could remember. Which isn't a flex, I know. But now, I don't want to use social media to be social. I have learned that I wanted social media to entertain me. But it isn't a movie theater. Or a local play acted out by broadway fans. Social media has replaced everything. EVERYTHING. And it's not a good thing! It has replaced the phone calls you made to your cousin to see how was the recent family vacation. It has replaced the photos you use to print and show visitors and your friends when they came over. It has replaced the little papers you passed around in class, or the thank you card to the attendants of a big party. It has replaced human things we used to do. Yes, we still do it to some extent, but the question becomes when does that extent become unintentional. I think the worse part social media has had on me is that it stripped me of my geniunity- if that's even a word lol. I want to change. I know that much.
