What i’ve learn through film photography

I'm a self-taught photography enthusiast, and I mostly shoot with 65-year-old vintage cameras that I got from my flea market about 5years  ago. Since it's such an old camera, that means I need a film in order to shoot it. With that being said, it’s quite limiting because I can only shoot about 24-36 exposure per film roll , which means I have to be careful (or mindful?) every time I crank the film advance lever and click the shutter. Why ? Because film photography quite pricey its cost anywhere between $7 to $20 per roll for such a small amount of shot (excluding developing and scan or printing cost ) so yeah i have to be mindful and intentional because its cost me almost or about 50 cents per shot. When i shoot with digital i can shoot almost endlessly and guaranteed i got what i want without thinking about cost per shot and how the result gonna look like . With film however , it’s taught me to slowdown because of the limitations, and i have to make every shoot count . And with all that limitations its force me to be aware of details in the scene.

I also have to be patient when i shoot film , because i didn’t get my picture right away , i have to wait till i finish the roll and i should wait to develop it and finally scan or print it , and only then i can see the result.

shooting film photography really force me to learn all that basic technical photography stuff from choosing film ISO , aperture , shutter speed, how to measure the light , etc. specially because of the light meters in my cameras no longer work lol .

however no matter how mindful / careful when i shoot a film , sometimes i didn’t get what i see or what i want , in other words i have to accept the failure and try to embrace it and take it as a way to learn to took a better image in future. and not only that , i also learn that i should trust the process and i shouldn’t put my expectations to high no matter how hard and careful i work or to do something and just accept the failure and learn to be better in the future , and that is something i can apply in real life. It’s okey to be failed rn we can always continue and learn to be better next time. Sometimes it okey to feels disappointed with the failure but don’t let it stop you.
