The Darlings: The crucial TF2 surname that isn't talked about. (English version/Version en ingles)

Warning: To fully understand this text, it is recommended to visit the official TF2 wiki, go to the “Non-playable characters” area and read the TF2 comics. Also add that English is not my native language.

Whenever I see people talking about TF2 and how there are overlooked characters, they always talk about Miss Pauling, Demoman, Bidwell, etc. I think that although those characters deserve more appreciation, there are other characters that turn out to be more important than we think.

These characters have little information, but what we are given already gives us a lot to talk about. I'm talking about the Darling family.

The Darlings.

Zepheniah Mann married the first Darling on the list, Bette Darling, she was the mother of the Mann brothers and daughter of William Darling, a squire. It seems that Barnabas Hale and Bette had a friendship, or at least a better relationship than the one Bette had with her husband, as Zepheniah downplays it, saying that the only thing she has done well is to have given birth to three boys.

Then, in the comics, the Darling family reappears, with Charles Darling, now, the family no longer had a bond of friendship with the Hales as before, but Charles and Saxton were enemies.

Charles is extremely wealthy, and runs several zoos, and somehow, he knows about the Administrator, and from what we know, getting to know her is terribly difficult, since she is in charge of silencing anyone who wants to know about her.

Charles Darling had a good relationship with the Hales, but he also knew about the Administrator and the ability of Australium to prolong life, that means one thing, the Darling name lives on.

Not much is known about the Darling lineage, but we do know that they have kept abreast of what is going on.

Who is the man in the photo?

Now, you may remember that old photo from just before Zepheniah died, where everyone close to him appears, but one of them is torn out of the photo.

We know that Bette was a Darling, but we also know that she was Zepheniah's wife, and that probably because of the way he treats her, it was all an arranged marriage, just so that the Manns and the Darlings could have a social relationship.

Perhaps the man in the photo is a relative of Bette, a Darling. Thus, confirming the relationship that the families have or had, it would also explain why Charles knows the Administrator.

We don't know why, but if the Darlings have a bad relationship with the Administrator, they probably have a bad relationship with the Manns as well. If that man in the photo is a Darling, it would confirm that Gray Mann and the Classics are not the Administrator's only problems, and that they have another enemy, who seems to be worthy of fighting with TF Industries, having:

  • Monetary capabilities.

  • Knowledge of manipulation.

  • Skill in fighting.

  • Knowledge of TF Industries and the Administrator.

The photo was torn, covering this man, who may be a Darling that the Administrator for some reason decided to cover up.

Conclusions:

We don't know much about the Darlings other than four things: that they have living descendants, that they have power, that they have importance in the story, and that they know about the Administrator and her dirty dealings.

And those characteristics already make them something to talk about, and more than anything, they know too much about the Administrator, they know things that not even Gray Mann knew about her.

As far as I'm concerned, the Darlings are more important than we think, and although my theories will turn out to be untrue (which is quite possible, as this is merely an assumption) the Darlings are obviously of greater importance than we think, because not only are they of great monetary power, but they know, they know about the Administrator and TF Industries, and they know more than they should know, and much more than others know.
