wisdom teeth update

alright it's been around 2 weeks since i got my wisdom teeth removed!! all four were pretty impacted but the recovery hasn't been too rough.

i had my checkup last monday and everything was fine. my recovery had been going pretty smoothly that far, not too much pain and i could use tylenol to manage my pain rather than the norco they gave me (i actually did not need the norco at all). strange thing is that usually, your surgeon will give you a syringe to clean the holes out but i didn't receive one. I didn't think much of it since I'd heard of other people not needing one, so i assumed my surgeon didn't give me one because i might not have needed it.

false! i did need it!

i had gone to work on wednesday and as soon as i'd gotten there, my jaw started hurting pretty badly on one side. i hadn't needed painkillers in quite a few days at that point. I figured it was the muscles in my jaw being overworked -- the side that i favor when chewing my food is still very sore since the extraction was more complex on that side, so i'd been chewing with the other side of my mouth, and this side was the side that was hurting. i took a few tylenol and went back to work in pain for the rest of the night.

when i got home that night, i was greeted with a swollen face! it was too late to call the surgeon's office to talk to someone, but when i called and left a message, a nurse returned my call a few minutes later and told me i likely had an infection. i had to wake up pretty early the next morning to call and get into the surgeon's office to take a look.

apparently they had meant to give me a syringe to clean my surgical sites, but they'd forgotten. he had to clear a lot of food debris from that side of my mouth and gave me more antibiotics (boo for taking another course right after i'd finished the post-op ones). womp womppp

good thing is that after i'd gotten that gunk cleared out, i had virtually no pain (when i'd been in pain before - i'd say a 6.5/10, when the rest of my recovery i'd been, at most, a 5/10).

everything else is going smoothly! i think i'm slowly getting back to normal. i'm still not allowed to eat crunchy or hard foods... i miss peanut butter pretzels... surgeon said i need to withhold for another 2-3 weeks on the hard foods :( luckily a lot of my fav foods are soft! i think i survived on smoothie bowls and protein powder the most lol, but special shoutout to lime jello and applesauce. the GOAT!!! THE GOAT!!!

i think the major roadblock in my recovery has been the antibiotics... they make my system feel sooo messed up and backed up. luckily amoxicillin hasn't been too horrible to me unlike macrobid but i still feel very queasy sometimes and i'm having some issues w indigestion lol. likely bc it makes me feel gross enough to not go on my daily walks (which help me digest my food)... sigh. i miss walking around aimlessly for an hour lol

but yeah! that's how it's going rn! hopefully nothing else will happen and i'll forget i even got them out by this time next yr :^)
