Blog 004 - These Experiences Are Fleeting

Every time I browse this site, I find endless profiles people pour their hearts and personalities into. The feeling of seeing this is unmatched, you sense a deep and rich emotional connection to this artifact that someone else crafted to reflect their life. Every decoration, every image, every friend, it serves a purpose and testifies to this person's qualities. That richness fades, however, when the account goes inactive and stops changing. The more time passes, the more the page evolves into a time capsule. This is what that person WAS like at that time, but where are they now? How have they changed? Would they like this page now? Most of all, I like to imagine the impact this page had on their lives. No matter how different we are, no matter what unimaginably apart all of us are, we are unified by understanding that at some time this single common thread stuck in all of our lives: this site. To me, THAT'S the true richness of this experience, being alone in the void, and being okay with that, content to walk the endless corridors and marvel at the small slices of someone's life that they themselves don't remember. Perhaps that's an even more intriguing idea, the idea that a forgotten relic of your personality follows you around, imperceivable to you, and is a bitter-sweet symphony of what used to make you you when you found this site. Even sweeter yet, that some lone stranger on the other side of the world still sees you for that and loves you, finding joy in the slightest imprint of your existance...
