is there ACTUALLY a way to get rid of scratches on glasses?

i'm sure we've all heard of the whole "put toothpaste on them!!" "fix" but i'm unsure if there's actually a way to fix them without just getting new glasses. does anyone have any tips? it's not TOO bad and i've gotten used to it, but it'd be nice to know
