a really cool book

i read The Northern Palmyra Affair recently...

i found it on my trip up to utah, in a bookstore in provo. it was in the "decorational books" section. a ridiculous idea, but i guess if there's a customer for it, someone will sell it. anyway, i chose a couple at random, opened a random page from each and eventually chose that one.

it was an interesting read. i went from thinking it'd be a soviet spy book to a romance to a soviet party politics commentary back to a romance and then by midway through i finally realized it was a slice of life of post "great patriotic war" (wwii) soviet leningraders/st. petersburgians/northern palmyrans. or at least, how they became who they are then through the various turmoils of russia. 

one of the best $2 i have spent in a long time.
