i want to get into poetry

ive always been interested with poetry, but have no idea where to start. 

it seems so interesting how you can just spill your emotions into such a beautiful way. especially if those emotions arent beautiful.

i do have some books about poetry, but i dont think thats enough for me to consider myself someone who is actively interested in poetry. after all, i find it a little hard to put myself in the authors shoes and completely understand what they are trying to say. 

ive thought about writing poetry before, but what good am i going to be at it if i cant understand what poetry even is?

if anyone will be able to tell me where i can get a good start and understand it, that would be very appreciated.
