Chatbot as a substitute for human customer service sucks ass and will not work.
Let me tell you why.
You see, my university has had a human customer support team that solves various problems and questions (i.e. administrations, campus registrations, guidances, etc.) for years. While it was clunky in UI/UX and sometimes took long to get an answer, at least you know that your ticket is certainly read and answered. In other words: it works.
Not long ago the support service had decided to implement AI Chatbot, a supposed "first responder". It means that you have to go through the chatbot before a human.
The problem is, that chatbot is an idiot.
In every session that I have created asking the chatbot my question on a very important issue (which was a tuition payment method problem), I could not have a single meaningful conversation with the bot, either due to the complexity of the problem or it was just broken or both. The bot erred every time I input something.
Here's the error response from the bot, verbatim: "Sorry, an issue has occurred in the chatbot's response. Please try again. If the issue persists, please contact our team via email."
The service has no email, just an address to their office.
After that, the bot dared to ask me: "Does my answer help your problem?"
I was astounded, not because of the problem with the bot, but the fact that they, the institution, thought that THIS damned thing was good enough to replace human resources. Money was spent on this piece of shit.
Alright, at least the bot gave me the option to finally consult with a human CS. Of course, I chose it.
It asked for my identity, sure thing.
And then, reality clapped both my buttcheeks. I did not realise that the ticketing system changed and it was ridiculous.
The CS created a new helpdesk site. But to create a new ticket, I have to go through the bot first. Then, I must go through the error to get the option for a human guide. After that, I logged in to the helpdesk and made a proper ticket. No option for creating a ticket on the website directly.
All that hassle just to be ignored by the CS even though I sent my ticket during work hours.
Why bother? Why don't you let us create a ticket without using the bot first? Why would you spend money in this? Is it because of FOMO? chasing bragging rights? or just a simple naivety?
If this is what the people call the future, then the future is fucking bleak.
And somehow, humans deprecated their own species.
An outdated hardware.
A candidate for the scrapping site.
Worth only to be a spare part.

God I hate when company's do that, it just shows me that they are cheap and lazy as well as too greedy to pay for real customer service workers. plus the ai is infuriating

Companies forget that every problem is unique and most of them need human assistance to be solved.
