pretty hate machine

about a week ago I listened to Pretty Hate MachineĀ  by Nine Inch Nails, my first NIN album. I've always had a bit of trouble getting into and "getting" NIN tbh, but I know a lot of people who really like them so I wanted to give it a shot.

the barrier to entry to me was I generally prefer more complex sounding lyrics and the bluntness of the word choice was a bit jarring (ironic as a Kimya Dawson fan in retrospect) but it started really growing on me the further I listened into the album. The crude instrumentals with the upfront direct lyrics made me have a long think about how people should be allowed to talk about their ugly angry feelings without tying it up a nice bow. really makes you think. OH and I think the "plain" lyrics make the songs easier to kind of relate to and I couldn't help but start wondering if trent resinor had gone through the same experiences as me and it's been a bit since an album has made me feel emotional in the ways that one did . pretty cool
