im honestly so glad i stopped dressing for the approval of others long ago, or future me would probably be breaking the bank just to waste my last pennies on designer clothes i dont really even like. anyway, i genuinely dont get how we ever let designer brands go on this long. like sure back in the day when you were getting the quality you payed for, maybe it wouldve been cool to own a piece with a designer name on, but NOW?? absolute waste of money.
for starters, they all look so ugly. i genuinely dont think ive seen any designer pieces i thought were cute in the past few years. now i dont go out of my way looking for designer clothes, so maybe theres some hidden gems somehwere - there probably is. but have you looked at a birkin, like ever cause?? all im saying is if i ever had the money to buy one, and i did it, fucking euthanise me. or those 3 tiered heels, i think theyre valentino, yeah no thanks. the satin makes them look cheap and they just look very big and clunky. and i dont see a way to style them to make them look less ugly, like theyre too clunky to be styled with cute dresses but too dainty looking to be styled any other way, they just look odd.
going back to my point about looking cheap, this seems to be a trend amongst other brands too, not even just in fashion either but ill save that for another post. so anyways, ive noticed that a lot of designer brands look cheap now, and this isnt anything new, ive noticed this since those versace(?) shirts became popular back in like 2018. i always thought that they looked really tacky, and not in an intentional way either. and its not even just these shirts either, the amount of times ive seen gucci belts that look like seatbelts converted is honestly insane, they never look good either - everytime ive seen one, theyre always COVERED in lint, its crazy. its honestly so outrageous that brands have the audacity to charge hundreds upon hundreds for something that looks like it came straight from those shein factories, they probably last just about as long too.
whats even more insane to me is the fact that these luxury goods are supposed to be status symbols. now luckily it doesnt seem to be AS bad right now, though it definitely is still quite bad, but back in like 2017-2021 i remember seeing atleast someone wearing a gucci belt or a hugo boss/giorgio armani shirt or carrying a louis vuitton bag everywhere i looked. it got so bad to the point where i would see KIDS with these things, one girl at my school literally rocked up with a louis vuitton bag in year7 YEAR7 (11-12 year olds). and i know for a fact that a lot of the people with these things could not afford them without having to sacrifice a basic necessity for a while. it honestly makes me so sad that we as humans seem to crave validation so much were willing to go to such extreme lengths just for the chance to get it.

I'm sorry a YEAR 7 WITH A LOIUS VUTTON BAG???
They're literally just kids???? Baby teenagers????
It's honestly getting out of hand tho with these designer brands cause half of em ain't even that good... We (my family) went to Verona last year on our holiday to Italy and there were tons of designer brands in the high street, as expected, and we passed a Gucci and there was hardly anything in there??? There were a few belts, a watch or two, a few tiny backpacks that you could fit your phone and a pack of cheddars in, and some shoes but nothing seemed special and it was honestly a let down. Plus the colours were ugly as.
to be fair i think it mustve been her older sisters but her sister was in like yr11 so thats still kinda outrageous. also the brands that absolutely COVER each piece in their logos look so ugly 9 times out of 10, i genuinely dont get why people would want to spend thousands on one of those things.
