i was out with my mum earlier and we went to the card shop to try and find a card for her friend. i saw this really card that looked kinda cute from the half of it i could see so i picked it up to look at if fully. big. fucking. mistake. the card had a little pig on the front and it looked like it was in some kind of barn i think (i cant honestly remember the details of it) and it was leaning on something, very cute anyway. then it hits me; this pig looks a bit... off. this whole picture looks off actually... i stop to try and reason why and i just cant seem to place it. then it hit me; this shit was ai generated, swear down it was ai. it had everything those ai generated pictures have - the weird vaguely glossy look, the slight uncanny-ness, even the weird faint glowy outline you always seem to get on ai generated pictures. thats weird, why the fuck would they use ai to make a card when taking a picture would be so much easier. then i see another card i thought was cute. so i pick it up. another ai card. i cant remember anything about it but it looked just like the other one, same traits and style. so now i start scanning the rows of cards and find one more. now this one wasnt as obvious to me as it wasnt supposed to be realistic like the other 2 but the longer i looked at it the more i became sure that it was ai. this one was of 2 hands holding half full glasses of champagne in some kind of outdoor marquee style thing. it had strings of those lights with the very big circular bulbs in the background and the sky in the back was a kind of dark blue, as though it was night. at first, i thought that maybe it was just the artists style, but the more i looked at it the more i couldnt believe that. now im really hoping that none of those cards were ai and i just spend too much time online, but unfortunately i dont think thats the case. ai scares me, i dont see many good things coming from itthe fact that it already seems to be making its way into the card making industry is kind of scary, like whats next??

sometimes i see AI images on billboards. fucking sucks, it just looks so scummy
no literally! i need this whole ai trend to die down because its making me feel insane. some things look like ai but theyre not while some things dont really look like ai but are and its making me distrust everything else now. i hate it here.

unfortunately i doubt it will as ai definitely has benefits for many. film studios, for example, could use generative ai to essentially replace animators, instead of having teams of animators working day and night theyll only need a couple to come in and fix any mistakes the ai has made. and maybe if the technology develops far enough, they could replace other roles like writers and actors/voice actors, saving even more money for those running the company. its terrifying to think what could be done with ai when given to the wrong people, though there are definitely benefits to it, i cant see a world where the cons dont outweigh the pros.
