Hiya! i'm pretty new to pinning but have always had an interest in insects and their use in art. I recently found a pretty moth under my maple (passed away,,, r.i.p :( ) and decided to immortalize it!
Discovery:
There she was! She caught my eye right after coming home from a party, and I just knew I had to take a closer look. Not in the greatest condition, but i'm incredibly lucky to have found it relatively fresh (and uneaten). I've always loved moths- luna moths in particular, their seafoam coloration has always been so entrancing to me. :)
Flipped:So I brought her inside and carefully flipped her over on my makeshift pinning board, managing to keep both antennae and wings intact (yay!!!). The beauty of the leaf-like coloration amazed me, no wonder they're such good tricksters. If it werent belly-up, I might've missed it among the leaves, lol.
Positioning:
I stuck a #1 insect pin through the abdomen, settling her body into the groove of my styrofoam "board". Carefully as to not damage them, I positioned the wings and- wow!!! Eye mimicry on full display! Now her two pairs of yellow eyes were staring into my soul,,, :0 ^ this is the position I ended up landing on.
She is currently drying in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Stay tuned for an update where I show the final pin!! Please feel free to drop any suggestions and feedback in the replies. This is only my second ever pin, so I'm eager to improve. :) Peace!
