why is no one talking about this...

im genuinely concerned for the younger generations and how theyll turn out. i dont know when it was decided that when we would give kids unrestricted internet access to babies the second they can prop their heads up unassisted but i honestly hope we can undo that decision. as someone who basically grew up with unrestricted internet access i think im qualified to say that giving kids unrestriced internet access is possibly one of the worst decision a parent could make and i wish i was being dramatic. i know when i was younger i was definitely finding things i shouldnt.now i was lucky i didnt find anything too bad like gore or anything, but i was 100% learning things i shouldnt have been learning. and i cant even imagine what its like now, with most kids content nowadays is just thinly veiled fetish content using popular cartoon characters for clicks, and it seems to run way more rampant now than back when i was younger. and even if theyre not watching content 'made for kids', the most popular content always seems to like back to porn somehow. from onlyfans models filming tiktoks with child influencers to those 20v1 challenges that always turn sexual and seem to have the trending page by the balls; its fucking crazy. and lets not even start child stars like lil rt. genuinely how has cps not been called on whoever the fuck is supposed to be taking care of him. they have this kid rapping about fucking bitches, shooting opps, swearing like theres no tomorrow and hanging around people he definitely shouldnt be at his age, yet no one seems to care, infact they just treat it as a joke. the way he had is own 20v1 video actually makes me feel sick. these GROWN women were making sexual comments and FUCKING TWERKING ON HIM AND THESE ABSOLUTE FUCKING LEMONS ON SET DID NOTHING TO STOP IT. there genuinely need to be done to protect kids online whether theyre consuming the content or participating in it because this is not acceptable and we really cant keep acting like this is perfectly normal. i honestly think that by exposing kids to so much hypersexualised content we make them more susceptible to things like grooming as theyre used to seeing such sexual behaviour. i feel so bad for the kids who have to grow up when content online is in the state that its currently in, and i feel like its only going to get worse if its left to fester.

The internet in 2024 is much worse than what it was when I was a kid. At least countless web browser game websites (for games made with Flash, Shockwave, Unity Web Player, etc) and child friendly MMORPGs existed back then, giving kids like me safe places to surf the web.

The children of today don't really have that. I mean, sure, Bluemaxima's Flashpoint exists and can run all sorts of different game engine software, but what little kid is going to know how to set it up on the family computer (and how to bypass any antivirus false flags)? It also doesn't help that parents are giving their young children (including literal infants and toddlers) smartphones and tablets these days either, as it's more difficult to supervise a child using a mobile device as opposed to something like a desktop or a laptop. Plus, mobile devices are easier to carry around with you and toss in front of a child's face in public than a computer.

There are also plenty of studies out there already showing how early exposure to smart devices can hinder and alter a child's overall development. The younger the child, the worse its effects appear to be.

honestly i think we need to find a way to enforce the age restrictions online more, especially with the fact that most social media sites rely on highly sensitive algorithms to operate. before, you had to know what you wanted and actively look for it. even into the late 2010s where there were algorithms but they werent as sensitive, you had to consume quite a bit of the content in question to be suggested more. now, all you need to do is watch 1 video and your entire sugested page is filled with more like it. if kids find content unsuitable for kids their age, theyll just be recommended more, creating an endless cycle.

i also think that kids spaces wouldnt do as well now as a lot of kids seem to think anything childish is bad and cringe. while this kind of mentality has always been around, i dont think its ever been to the extent it is now. with the rise of cringe culture and kids using social media, they care more about not being cringe than ever. and because being cringe might as well just be the worst sin imaginable, kids are going to take it to heart and stop themselves from being children. there would definitely be kids who absolutely love them but there would be equally as many who dont want to play those games because they think it will make them cringe.
