gyaru rant

(gal=gyaru)

why do people seem to act so dense when it comes to gyaru?? like they understand subcultures just fine until it comes to gyaru and it pisses me off so bad. and its always on toktok too. from feeling the need to ask every gyaru with long nails how they wipe their ass to just not understanding that subcultures arent exclusively music based and can infact be based around other things like fashion. im genuinely starting to think every ounce of common sense has vanished from that god forsaken app.

why do people seem to forget how to act when they see gyarus?? like i get that theyre curious and just want to learn more but when has it ever not been a bit weird to ask people how they wipe?? tf?? and the way i alsways see this under the comments of japanese gals, mainly the egg models, its never gaijin gals (foreign/non japanese gyarus) which i think is also a bit odd. i feel like this links into the fact that people seem to be getting way too comfortable on the internet nowadays but thats a topic for another post.

and the misinformation absolutely kills me. like how did we come to the conclusion that you dont need makeup to be gal. THATS LITERALLY THE MAIN PART OF GYARU. like nothing else matters as much besides makeup and the mindset that comes with it. theres also just general information on the makeup, like people thinking the main element of gyaru makeup is the droop (its not look at any gyaru magazine from the 90s), or the fashion, like people mixing up styles and calling any tropical beach themed looks manba when very clearly not. i think the main reason behind this is people thinking they know everything. like people will hear one gal say something then go on to misinterpret and misconstrue it in other comment sections, causing a massive game of telephone. some people also definitely fall for rage bait and spread that information around thinking its real. there is definitely more egregious misinfo going around, like gyaru being a music based subculture and needing to be east asian/japanese to be gyaru but thankfully theyre not as common.

i also absolutely hate how gyaru is being watered down. from those trying gyaru makeup videos that dont even get anywhere close to gyaru to people claiming gyaru substyles as other styles that theyre not to people just outright claiming to be gyaru without ever doing gyaru makeup or even any research into it as a style.  why do people seem to think that gyaru is just blonde hair, pink lace and animal print. because how did we actually get here. i feel like the first and third thing could be attributed to those 2 really popular chinese gals on instagram/pinterest. now i dont think they themselves are the problem, moreso the way people view them. a lot of the time in those trying gyaru makeup videos i see people using one or the other of them as references for the makeup. now this in itself isnt a problem, the problem lies with how people interpret their makeup, as they both have a more unique take on gyaru makeup, people often misinterpret the key elements of gyaru makeup because they look very different in both their make styles. as for the second point, i mainly see himekaji being misrepresented and as someone who does himekaji sometimes its honestly so baffling how it happened. from my perspective, i just saw people calling that one depop resellers style himekaji one day, seemingly out of no where, and i havent been able to find out how or why that happened. now while there are similarities between the 2, himekaji is still wayy more up toned that whatever that style is (i genuinely dont know what to call it). ive also seen a lot of people saying that himekaji isnt exclusively a gyaru style and that other styles like lolita have a variation of himekaji. i would like to make it clear that himekaji is exclusively a gyaru style, or atleast right now it is i obviously dont know what will happen in the future, himekaji basically translates to princess causal. other styles have substyles called hime[whatever style], like lolita for exapmle, but himekaji doesnt exist in other styles (or atleast not that i could find) so no gal no himekaji. going back to my third point, i think people forget that you can be inspired by something without actually being that thing, for example, i take a lot of inspiration from early 2010s fashion - i wouldnt say that my style is exactly like the styles of the early 2010s but its definitely inspired by it. you really dont have to be everything that inspires you, it just looks a bit embarrassing on your part if you go round acting like youre something youre clearly not.

YES!! I have it when people give straight up misinformation, do no research, then call guard a aesthetic and not a alternative subculture! I CANT! I have something like this on my blog too! I really hope baby gals are more smart with where to look for the Information, I got all of mine from old yt vids (usually makeup tuts lol and hair lol) and Wikipedia (like for the history) and Lizziebee (I'm pretty sure that's her name?) she's a great YouTuber :3 also I saw this one vid of a mom and her gal daughter talking Abt how it was back In the day and now plus the history.

But anyways hope new gals can find trusted resources in the future

I’m so glad people are talking about this issue within the gyaru community, critical thinking skills are truly gone and it makes me sad bc I love the gyaru community and its fashion, music, lifestyle, etc, and the fact that it’s being reduced to nothingness much like other alternative subcultures makes me really upset.

i hate how people have reduced gyaru down to 'kogal' and 'agejo' and maybe hime. like i dont expect everyone to know the entire history of gyaru front to back but i hate how watered down each of the more popular styles have become and how people have just completely forgotten about the effect that kogals have had on the community.
