Hey SpaceSleepers (39): Last Words of a Shooting Star

Mitski isn't my favorite artist ever, mostly because I feel like that's such a heavy name to carry, especially considering I listen to so much music and that I have the emotional memory of a goldfish. What I mean by that is every time I listen to musicians I love, they are, in that moment my favorite musician. This doesn't mean that every musician I listen to has that momentary feeling, of course, just ones that standout in how much I enjoy their music. Expanding off of this, I don't think there are any Mitski albums that I particularly feel are bad, there are just ones I find so deeply memorable that every time I listen to them, I feel them sink beneath my skin, nourishing me.

I am really happy to own my own CD of the "bury me at makeout creek" album. It's her third album and second she recorded with Patrick Hyland producing, and one of my favorite early albums by her. I love especially how it feels to listen to on my walkman, especially since it means I can just lay down without the fear of losing my in-ear earphones. I don't listen to it when I sleep since it is much more of an intense album. Don't take this as me disliking her cowboyfying her songs on this album, I think it is an interesting creative decision considering that she is in a much better place than she was when she was 24. My favorite song is the title of this entry because it makes me feel a lot of things in its gentleness. Having this album means a lot to me (07/15/2024).
