⚠️SPOILERS FOR BORRASCA⚠️
I had just recently listened to an Audiobook retelling for Borrasca, and have nobody to rant to about this. So I'll be shoving it into my blog since I can't get it out of my head -- it's been clogging up my brain, that's for certain. (𖦹﹏𖦹;)
I had been putting off Borrasca from my "to read/listen to" list for quite a while; if only I could go back in time to scream at myself to start on it earlier. Even after a few days have passed, the story's twist still has a vice grip on me-- only exemplified by the narration. Little details that are mentioned along every point in the story had seemed so insignificant at first listen, yet they become so overwhelmingly dreadful with every nuanced examination done and left by various readers. Details and story beats never entirely connect until the final nail in the coffin is hit; that is the ending of the story.
At first, I figured it had something in relation to the paranormal-- which was what initially caught my interest about the story. Though, slowly, it pieces itself together. Stitching every sliver of info written into a macabre quilt of what is a plausible scenario that can happen in the real world. The perspective comes from such a child-like perception of the unknown, and completely shatters that immature image in place of something unfathomably realistic.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THE GRINDING METAL ISN'T THE PRODUCT OF A SUPERNATURAL WORLD BUT INFACT A GIANT MACHINE THAT GRINDS DEAD BODIES? WHAT DO YOU MEAN ALL RESIDENTS ARE INHERENTLY RELATED TO ONE ANOTHER SUCH AS THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND A PARTNER THAT ISN'T YOUR SIBLING? WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WAS A BABY FARM? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BORRASCA REFERS TO THE "USELESS" VICTIMS??????
The fact there isn't a happy ending to this is absolutely visceral, vile, and aggravating. Albeit it was the most likely outcome for such a story, that I can't even really be mad at it at all. Borrasca definitely places as one of the best stories I'd ever given the time to absorb.
