💤.• | Blackwashing isn’t real. accept it.
In the year of 2024, idk why this is still a fucking discussion. ‘Blackwashing’ never had been, and isn’t real.
‘Blackwashing’ was term created by the white community to combat ‘whitewashing’, an ACTUAL term for erasing representation, culture, and overall blackness from of course, black people, black media and black culture. ‘Blackwashing’ is commonly used in spaces like art communities, to justify not wanting black representation and black appreciation in art spaces.
Now, it’s confused as an actual, bad thing that quote, “erases rep from other ppl/cultures and is racist”. And even some go far to say it supports black supremacy. Which is stupid as hell because it supports nothing of the sort.
Blackwashing is as simple as making a character look like you, because it makes you happy and feel seen in your faves. But now it’s racist? Like I said, Stupid 💀.
‘Blackwashing’ doesn’t take away rep, because if the character has cultures and things of its own black add-ons are just place WITH IT, not overriding it. Like, a BLASIAN mikan tsumiki, it’s just a BLACK AND asian mikan, it doesn’t erase her previous race. So that arguements cut.
Then, how is it racist to support blackness? Answer, it’s not. You just personally don’t like the way it’s done so you slap a bad label on it, which is childish and ignorant. Racism isn’t a tool to make your opinion factual. Even if a character is made fully black that doesn’t imply racism or that their race isn’t important, nor that being black is better. All it does is make the character black. That’s it. And y’all reach for the stars to say it’s bad when it’s not. The simple fact is you don’t like it. But bitch you can cry me a river.
And if your one of those ppl that say both whitewashing and blackwashing are bad. You’re just as wrong and ignorant. You’re acknowledging a fake and ignorant ideology whilst trying to not get on the black community’s “bad side” or be labeled as a racist. Which you are if you support an ideology rooted in hate for black representation. Stand on that, or accept blackwashing isn’t real.

Girl, u said someone can be black and represent a culture of mostly black people, per example, asian culture; if you're right, then why do you need to make a character black to represent a culture of mainly black people, like, come on... You also said it's just to make the character look like you and that isn't anything bad, maybe whitewashing is for the same purpose: to look more like them and you're saying it's bad just bc they’re making the characters whiter? (I'm not a whitewashing supporter) If you can justify blackwashing by saying it's made to make the characters look like you, then people can justify whitewashing bc the same thing. All the people who sees a blackwashing fanart and says: "Wow! This looks so cool! The character looks so much better black than white!" It's racism because you're saying being black looks better than being white, are you fr?? The literal oxford definition of the word "racism" is: "The inability or refusal to recognize the rights, needs, dignity, or value of people of particular races or geographical origins." So, yeah racism goes to black people just as it goes to white, asian and every skin color or race. Before trying to defend something, do some research. And if you don't like, per example, Genshin Impact just bc it doesn't have black people representation (that's true, but I don't play a game just bc of the character's skin tone, I think everyone should be more mature and stop focusing on someone's skin color, don't you want equality?? Then stop pointing out the races or skin colours), then stop playing it!!!It's so simple, as you said, even if you will keep slowing the normalization of someone's race and complain about someone's skin colour, they are not gonna change it! They don't care about us, they care about the money so just stop playing and, as you said, cry me a river.
