As early as elementary school, I wanted to write a story. IN middle school I tried, but worldbuilding and all the little puzzle pieces of writing still evaded me. I just could not wrap my head around it.
Similarly, I would struggle and struggle with coding when I first started to try to change my tumblr theme in 2012-2013. I couldn't understand the lines and lines of brackets and terms there.
Until adulthood. I played a few sessions of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with some friends, and fell in love with storytelling again. I'd always read a lot of books - was one of those kids who's reading level was well beyond expectations for my grade.
The campaign ended for me, but I still wanted to see my character's story through. I wanted her to live on, even if it were in some other world of my own making. Thus began a new hobby. I started small - family ties, and major events.
Then came the slow tumble into a hobby becoming 'well maybe I want to do this professionally on some level.' And now I'm hoping to publish an Indigenous-Futurist science fantasy trilogy some day.
Coding I'm still undecided on. I think that I want to keep it as a hobby for now, and just continue to teach myself at my own pace. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment with the level of problem solving it takes, and the resulting aesthetically pleasing website that comes alongside it.
With my snowball into both of these things, I wonder if eventually I'll start to engage with math more often - despite my ever-present and frustrating dyscalcula.
