So for quite a bit, I was using Microblog sites for quite a bit from 2020 up until this point.
I used to use Twitter (Now known as X which nobody except Muskyman and his ass kissers is calling), until 2023, and to begin with, found the site pretty bad for multiple reasons.
- Cancel Culture dumbasses were a thing I hated even before joining.
- People are always assuming the worst of something and it gives doomers something to complain about
- and Twitter is not a good site for artists. (Wasn't made for it in mind like DeviantArt, which I find ironically to be another shitty site for different reasons)
Twitter is just an overall lost cause, the Musk buyout and the rebrand to X didn't make it any better. It will always be a shitshow of a website regardless of who owns it. The only way to improve the site is if it was deleted from the internet entirely.
The one thing I will bring up is the Tumblr Apocolypse and how it paved the way for that site's audience to ruin every platform they're a part of (not saying everyone in particular ruined that site, I am saying a majority of idiots that were on Tumblr that joined Twitter destroy a platform by posting their bullshit).
The Tumblr Apocalypse occurred in 2018 and Twitter gained their new audience from that. That audience would be a mainstay for the site up until Elon Musk showed up, and when that happened, new people decided to venture out into that new site that Jack Dorsey was helping to create, and that was BlueSky (which in beta was using invite codes to their new userbase).
BlueSky even in it's beta stage was meant to replicate the days of Twitter prior to the Elon buyout, but honestly, I feel like it just became another Twitter. Some BlueSky people will think it's Twitter but good, but the thing is (in my eyes)
Good and Twitter don't go in the same sentence unless it's "Twitter is not good at all for anything"
BlueSky for a while is what I called "Diet Twitter", because it is not in your face with some of the bullshit, but when there is bullshit, there's bullshit. So BlueSky is yet another platform for the Tumblr/Twitter offshoots to be on, except the only difference is that it's probably gonna fail faster than X-era Twitter, and why the hell have I been using it if I don't seem to like it that much?
For one, I only ever use it for posting my art and that's about it, no way in hell am I using it to microblog about XYZ bullshit I have in mind. I don't even use the site's Tweet creation feature to upload art (that's what PostyBirb is for, and I use it on every site I use, such as Newgrounds, Pillowfort, and BlueSky of course).
Fortunately, I've been hearing quite a bit about SheezyArt (for the fun of it, I call it CheezyArt)
SheezyArt is a promising art site that seems to have a lot of customization features for profiles (which is a must in a time when most people are only allowed to use a PFP and Banner)
It's not a microblog site but honestly, we don't need another Twitter or an alternative to it that offshoots are gonna flock to just to keep their Twitter addiction alive and well. One Twitter was bad enough.
One con I have with it is the shitty Discord embedding, and I find it unfair that worse sites have better embedding than sites that are actually good.
Twitter and BlueSky have better embeds, but Newgrounds, PillowFort, and Sheezy don't have good embeds at all as either the thumbnail is being displayed or the image is too small.
So yeah, I may have to directly upload my images again, not the worst thing ever, adding the description plus posting the links to the image on social media.
It's not the worst thing ever, but it takes the convenient embedding from the shitty microblog sites away.
So yeah, Microblogs suck, after Artfight, I am prolly gonna phase out my BlueSky accounts.
