H'etra - War and the birth of powers

There's three sides to this story - Haven's, humanity's, and the truth.

In Haven's story, the Celestials started a war out of spite.

In humanity's story, it was simply unpreventable; the unfortunate result of 2 races that had too many differences to come together peacefully.

I'm here to tell you the truth.

When mankind came seeking refuge, the natives weren't happy. Many were skeptical of our motives, not believing that we were truly the last of our kind. Others, however, took pity on our situation and took us in. They fed us, clothed us, taught us their ways, and for a time all was well. But times like those rarely last.

Even among the sympathetic houses, there were disagreements. Whether mankind should be able to join houses with the natives; whether we could have places of importance, or would be committed to menial work; even whether or not their children should be friends. The disagreements festered into fights and rallies. Eventually, Draemoore's capital was attacked by its own dissidents, as that was the location of the largest refugee community. When word spread to the other countries, they also fell under attack from their people.

The continent of Helaeru divided itself - Sympathizers against those who wanted mankind gone. The sides were evenly matched in numbers and less so in strength, for the natives had powers granted by their gods, while the humans had none. Years were spent attempting to remedy this; 10 years of losses and slow defeat, until finally a breakthrough. The experiment's common name was 'Generation X', a genetic mutation that copied the native's power codes. The experiment was unpredictable in many ways; what powers it dispersed, the strength of those abilities. The most unpredictable factor, however, was that the gene carried on. After the initial subjects were released for their various duties, they had children born with powers.

The war came to an end soon after the experiment, both sides agreeing that the casualties had been far too many. The sympathizers and mankind stayed on Helaeru, while most purists left for the largely unsettled island of Talon.
