I would never use the public mainstream systems... Linux is the onliest alternative to MacOS or Windows. And if you are a beginner I would suggest Ubuntu or maybe Debian if you have some experience. But also Trisquel is worth a try! :)
windows 8 is kinda cool, for me atleast, but use an os that still get support like Win 10 or 11, or if you want high customizable and flexible os, i think Linux.
