Hello.... interweb companions. I come bearing unfortunate news. You see, about a month ago I first watched the 1999 Matrix movie. I was skeptical at first, but was very quickly sucked into the story and felt absolutely immersed in this world. The time flew by while watching and I was desperate for more (I was unaware it was a series!),, so much so I had watched through the whole credits to see if there were any easter eggs. Ah, no. So I texted a good friend of mine, saying I watched The Matrix! And then, my life changed... he said: "Which one?" AH! JOYOUS! From there I watched the second one-- pretty fantastic... not as good as the first, but still an amazing movie. The third one I was pretty on board with, mind you I was sort of distraught by the transitions/cuts made during the intense scenes (see, I am somewhat stupid). But at the end of the third movie I was disheartened. I felt as if the overall message of the series had entirely changed to be something more palatable for the mass audience. I understand that peace is a good message for many things, but it felt too corny,, too easy of a solution! Nevertheless, I will tell people I enjoyed that movie. Because I did (to a much lesser extent than I did the first two).
I had hope for Resurrections. I truly did. But..... It was.... Awful. This is old news to anybody who saw this franchise progress from the start (admittedly I am born after 1999, so who am I to judge?) But since I just watched it (okay, I did not fully watch it. I got to the 1.5 hr mark and turned it off because I hated every second of it), it feels as if it is my turn to complain. I mean, the dialogue was corny-- this is expected-- and the action seemed so much less eventful. Now, since I did not see the end, I was pretty confused on the artistic choice of giving Bugs blue hair (only in the matrix) even though she is like 'unplugged' but whatever. Small details. During the scene where the coorp was discussing the development of a 4th game, I mean, that was entirely obvious that they were making a jab about the production of the entire film itself. It was like. Aha! Look at what we are doing to milk a fairly finished series in order to make the very last bit of profit from it! Isn't that so funny? Haha! We suck! YES YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the use of clips from the old movie, I mean, sure.. In moderation. But every other second was a clip from the 1999 film!! That felt lazy. I am also not a filmmaker, so what do I know.
Now, I mentioned the third one having somewhat driven away from what felt like a very coooool message (What is this message? You ask me. Well, I would tell you, but I don't want to seem like a freak. Okay okay. Like. I mean they clearly mentioned a lot of gnostic stuff, right? Second movie has a battleship called Gnosis, the redpill/bluepill is pretty closely associated with that stuff. And also like the whole THE WORLD IS A SIMULATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean. Yeah, come on. So in essence that whole thing is like, from what I know (not much), all about attaining gnosis (knowledge of the true god and the way to him) and then like helping others and bringing good into the world blah blah blah we are one god fractured into plurality and we need to awaken our souls and become whole again yadda yadda and like yeah sure this movie isnt entirely all about that BUT YOU CAN SEE THE INFLUENCE SO I WOULD EXPECT THE RESOLUTION TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO THAT WOULD WORK ALONG THOSE LINES BUT IN TRUTH I DO NOT THINK GOAL IS TO BE AT PEACE WITH THE ROBOTS (demiurge????????))
Let me re-gain my thoughts.
So yeah I think Resurrections fed into a different concept that like, sure, could be cool. But also is very far from the original concept that it feels very discordant. Uh. Confused. You know? Like they didn't really know what they were doing. LOSERS!!! GIVE ME A SCRIPTWRITING SOFTWARE AND AN EXPENSIVE CAMERA AS WELL AS MANY ACTORS AND LET ME TRY MY HAND AT IT!!!!!!!! I COULD MAKE SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL (HORRENDOUS) AND REALLY WOW THE AUDIENCE (MAKE THEM LOSE HOPE IN MEDIA)
Anyways, this culmination of thoughts was written in like 18 minutes so please call me stupid. I know nothing, and yet I will continue to spout my useless ideas until I make sense. Because maybe someone out there will hear me and translate it into actual words. I yearn for knowledge! Yet I misunderstand everything.
Thoughts on Matrix Resurrections (2021)... + Me going crazy real-time
