Album: The Simps- Siblings (Lo-fi, Indie Rock, Indie-Pop, Post-Rock)
"Siblings" by The Simps came out in 2022. I only discovered them a few days ago. I've spent a really short time with this record, however I'm certain that this is a great piece of work. I personally enjoy ear worm guitar chords, soft vocals, experimental production and while this is slotted as Indie rock / Post-punk they have done just that. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a certain "taste" to be enjoyed because there is definitely catchy choruses and is very much "easy-listening." You can play this in the background while you lie in bed browsing the web, stare at the ceiling in the dark, or take hallucinogens- You will enjoy it.
If you're up for vocals coated in echo and some reverb similar to Surf Curse particularly on the hit song "freaks"; the album "Siblings" by the Simps would be right up your alley. Fourteen tracks at thirty-five minutes. Majority of the songs don't come close to three minutes, but each one sure does pack a punch for the short amount of time you spend listening to it. It honestly may increase its replay-ability and familiarity. It doesn't feel like its overstaying its visit. Once you're hooked it moves onto the next waiting to catch and hold onto you again. I'm not quite sure what the band is up to now, but I will be certainly be looking forward to whatever they make next wether its together or separate (I believe the members were solo and came together for this project and since then continue their solo work).
Some of my most favorites are "On Fye", "Green Eyed Girl", and "Cinderellas Daughter." I also really enjoy the album artwork. The bright colors and the knife weilding reminds me of Adult Swim's show "Mr. Pickles" the devil like dog that gropes the mother and protects his child owner while having a man wearing latex and chained up as a servant. Doesn't get any more "Rock" than that. Will certainly be purchasing a physical copy as soon as I wake up from the dreamy climax of being high without a single blunt that only a few artists can do.
