Sit & Mourn and its Usage of Callbacks (Knocked Loose)

Hi! I’ve been saying I’d do an album retrospective for You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To ever since it came out but I never really got around to it. Well guess what. I still haven’t I’m literally just talking nonsense here tonight.

After two months of sobbing hysterically over Sit & Mourn for hours per day, I’ve made some connections!!! I have a theory(?) that this song is literally just a summary of the entire album, having callbacks to each individual track. These are kind of just personal notes and comparisons that I put together for myself and my own personal listening experience but I want to put this out there just in case

(Keep in mind, the two major themes present in every song on this album are religious trauma and grief. I’m not doing a lyric analysis and I’ll talk about the themes more in depth when I do the actual album review)

(The lyrics taken from Sit & Mourn are the ones in bold.)

(This is definitely a stretch but I can kind of explain? In Thirst, the protagonist is described as mutilated and completely damaged as a result of the belief system he followed.

That Sit & Mourn lyric is about desperately wishing you could’ve prevented that damage from being done after witnessing it.)

Yeah that’s it for now, I just wanted an excuse to finally bring up You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To and Sit & Mourn because I’m so obsessed with this band, they’re literally the only thing that calms me down as of lately for some reason
