Dead!

Do people really think how fucked up it is to die?ย

I have oft heard it said, and I am inclined to believe it, that the closest one may come to experiencing death is within the realm of slumber. Observe, if you will, how upon closing one's eyes, hours pass imperceptibly, and one awakens as though having traversed time in an instant. The mind severs its connection to rational thought; thus, I would assert that dying bears a semblance to this state: one merely drifts into a profound sleep, never to awaken.

I dare say the most dreadful aspect would be the utter ignorance of oneโ€™s own demise. You would never again perceive anything, nor witness the unfolding of life, the emergence of new wonders, bands, or even scientific inquiries. You would perish with the thought of "I shall attend to it later", a promise forever unfulfilled.

In truth, one would be rendered insignificant if not enveloped in fame. Or rather, one shall always be insignificant, for the Universe is vast beyond measure, animals lack the rationality to remember us, and humankind is destined to fade. Every soul upon this earth shall be forgotten. Is this the life you desire? To exist merely in the shadows, to perish in obscurity, all the while deluding yourself as the protagonist of your tale, when in reality, you have cherished naught?

Living is cruel.
