so if you've seen my profile, i make games in various different game engines. stuff like roblox, mmf 1.5, tgf, and gb studio. though, i don't think i've ever told you guys what game engines i use, and roblox is more seen as a hobby.
for my upcoming game, the adventures of keaton, i used to use rpg maker 2003. but then i downgraded to rpg maker 2000 because rpg maker 2003 used the side-view battle system. later on, when developing my game, i realized that using an older version of rpg maker may not be a good idea. for instance, i tried making a password input system, but it was a bit janky, and could only support 1 password.
because of this, i moved to rpg maker vx, which then i found out that you can only have one tileset in your game. this made me move up to rpg maker vx ace. which was actually, the perfect version i needed at the time.
so like any other game developer would do, i began to start working on my game.
one thing that i should mention when using rpg maker vx ace is that there is scripting in the game - like actual scripting. the coding language vx ace uses is ruby, or referred to as rgss3 in the help guide. this made me want to use it even more so i basically went wild with plug-ins.
another thing i should point out is that, rpg maker vx and rpg maker vx ace's scripting engine both use ruby. rpg maker xp also uses ruby as well. only problem is that scripts may not be backwards compatible and vice versa.
onto the next thing.
replacing tilesets is hard and a bit stressful. when you use the default tileset and then use a different tileset, you have to redo maps because everything is gonna look like a mess after replacing the tilesets. sometimes, the tilesets you have may not have the things you need. i'm using rpg maker vx ace's time fantasy dlc on steam, and i had to buy like 3 packages because they didn't have what i need. luckily, it's summer, and every summer there is a steam sale. and those sales can have ridiculously cheap prices.
