I've never understood people who are homophobic "bc of their religion"
first offf most religions preach being nice to each other so homophobia automatically goes against that. and it's a very lazy argument to ground your homophobia in a holy text as it's basically on the same level as a fairytale collection, the only difference is that religious texts influence politics for some reason (imagine a politician quoting the little mermaid or something in their campaign lmao). not to mention how religious/holy texts have constantly gotten rewritten and reworked and whatnot throughout history,+ context being lost due to translations over time
and, just bc you're religious it doesn't mean you have to follow your holy text to the t. take 1 look at all the religious wars throughout history and you'll figure out pretty quickly that that's impossible to do bc there'll always be 548900255488952675435666 ways to interpret it
in conclusion: if you're already gonna lie about why you're homophobic just get silly with it. say it's bc a rainbow personally flooded your house or something

oooh i'd like to add to this!
even though the bible i've been taught confirms this, this interpretation comes from « Rainbow History Class » by Hanna McElhinney - which i can't recommend enough
abrahamic religions (so christianity, judaism and islam) tell the story of how abraham went to sodom and gomorrah and the people there were awful
i'll skip the actual story because ew but i'll give the important part
angels came to visit abraham and loth his nephew, and some men from sodom showed up like "we want to f the angels" and abraham offered his wife and daughters instead (which is also gross, esp for the hero of the story like ????) but the folks from sodom were like "nuh uh, we're f-ing the angels!"
the obvious interpretation is that sa is bad and consent is good, but "the dominant interpretation" is like "nuh uh, there's actually plenty of rape in religious texts, it's actually only sinful because the angels were men" which umm... says a lot about religious misogyny tbeh
the book presents this as being like, the start of all homophobia, but i'd argue that you have to hate women and gay men BEFORE interpreting an anti-rape story that way.
Oh wow that’s pretty brutal, but also really interesting! Ty for sharing!!

This is because of bad translations of The Bible, and fault of people who modified it to hate the LGBT Community in these times. The main lesson is "be nice to other people like with yourself" and actually homosexualism, transgenderism, etc. are not sins. The true sin is the sexual abuse to innocent grown people, kids, and animals.
Exactly! I actually heard that (I think) in the German bible the word homosexual wasn’t introduced in it before 1940-something! These mistranslations often fuelled by the current political climate is why we end up with so many weirdo takes about what is and isn’t sin

yes!! thankfully, my religion is naturally very accepting accepting of any and all lgbtq+ identities (even our god(dess) doesn't have just one gender)). WAN accepts all individuals and their uniqueness :3
Out of curiosity what’s your religion? I tried searching up “wan religion” but the first thing that came up was the swastika wiki page which I’m choosing to believe is inaccurate ;-;
