Wtf is an ice cream social?

Idk I feel like I hear people talking about ice cream socials a lot and I don’t really get it because even if you’re just going to get ice cream with somebody, that’s an ice cream social because you’re being social and eating ice cream but it’s not considered an ice cream social?
