Cult party kei is a fashion that started around just one store with the same name. The start of the store was in 2006, started by a girl named Ari.
Ari originally came to Tokyo in hopes to become a musician. Because of how expensive that can get, she got a part-time job in a store at Kalenji, which is an area with primarily vintage and old-school clothes. She absolutely fell in love with everything to do with clothes, especially of this style. It turns out that she liked it more than music, so she quit it and started a store called Cult party.
The store still exists, but is now called 'The Virgin Mary.'
This store gained a following, and branched off into its very own established fashion sub-culture. Even though the fashion started off as a store, you don't HAVE to buy from there to wear it.
Special thanks to my friend Michelle, who goes by cherrycoree or cherry on here for giving me the idea of writing about this style. And thank YOU for reading!
