Why I think Lain’s compelling Storytelling is super ahead of it’s time

Disclaimer: This is my personal understanding, feel free to share yours! :)

Number one, build-up.

The story build up is INSANE, the more confusing the story gets, the more it kept me on edge. The ending was genius, 12 episodes of holding your breath and 1 episode letting it out.

Number two, real life problems.

The storyline is ahead of its time, literally. This show was made in July of 1998 and yet perfectly resembles the problems of our internet age. 

Number three, Characters.

The characters are perfect, well, Lain’s family is. They made lain’s family seem very off but so normalized at the same time, a way to keep the viewer intrigued yet confused in some way. At least that’s how I felt…
