Made in abyss ramble (theory i guess) (SPOILERS!)

(Anime spoilers, no, i havent read the manga but i will...!!)

I personally think riko's mom isnt waiting for her down there happily, having found the "secret of the abyss".

I think she sent reg up there, but (as stated in season 2 by Gaburoon) those robots didnt usually wander from layer to layer, each one having its own type. I like to believe reg was either from layer 6 or 7, and him being so advanced, lost his memories due to the code being made like that so the secret of the abyss stays down there.

I think Lyza sent reg up because

1) Shes in danger

2) It wasnt Lyza, it was the abyss or something in it calling riko back (As stated by Ozen, things that were reanimated by the curse vanishing relic try to climb back into the abyss)

I personally like the second theory more, hence it is a lot more fitting to the story of made in abyss!! (Plus, why would they throw that element in. Like come on. Its GOTTA be important...)
