Firstly, 1 Corrinthians 1:18 says "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God".
I'm sorry if I offend Atheists with this, but this is my blog.
I think the reason why atheists struggle with understanding the bible so often is because God basically bars them from doing so unless they do it for his him.
I say this because Paul basically said in 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 "he cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."
I have the orthodox Study Bible and it says as a foot note: Why is the message of the cross... foolish to unbelievers? "it is a mark of them that perish not to recognize the things which lead them to salvation". We who bear witness to Christ must not be discouraged when those outside of him mock, for so did once even Paul himself. Being saved, present tense, refers to the process by which the cross transforms us with the power of God.
That is the foot note. Highly recommend getting this thing.
Atheists who read the bible for the purpose of arguing against it are the prudent. Atheists just literally do not have the capacity to understand the bible. That's basically it.
They can read it, but that doesn't mean they understand it.
