(I couldn't decide whether to use the Art and Photography category, or the Automotive one, but I did Automotive) (I wish you could choose multiple categories) (I uploaded the photos with postimage, so some of them may not load through that well)
So, I went to a rally* last weekend and took many photos, and I wanted to share them. However, I have only selected a few of the photos.
*A rally is kind of a race with cars that are modified (i.e. roll cages**, turbos) but instead of racing together, there is around 2 minutes between each car. Sometimes the cars can get up to 200+km/p on some stages***. There is (from what I know) two types of rallys. A tarmac rally, which is on normal roads, and a dirt rally, which is on (obviously) dirt roads. The one I went to was a dirt rally.
** A roll cage it basically a metal cage on the inside of the car which keeps the driver and navigator safe if they crash. Every normal car has a roll cage, but they are weaker and inside the car where you don't see them, these roll cages add more protection
***A stage is like one 'race', then the car either travels to the next stage, gets refueled, or gets serviced and refueled.

I unfortunately don't have many photos of Car 25 as they crashed, but i have a photo of them at a remote refuel (it's not on here tho) (Also they crashed into a crashed car, then another car crashed basically into them, three car ‘pile-up’)

Yeah :]
I think there was a Subaru competition within the rally which is why there’s so many. Plus Subarus are just easy to turn into rally cars/drive well.

I’m not very good at the editing afterwards so it’s mostly just cropped, upped saturation and contrast, which means they’re close the original (but I suppose that the same with most rally photos, you would really use photoshop too much)

Also the atmosphere was really nice, they had a technically parade in the town (the cars were parked but people can and looked at them) and really involved the town's community in spectating. At the end of the parade thingy, the drivers (+ navigators) got in the car to move them back to the service park at night, they were allowed to reeve the cars a lot to basically show them off. One of the cars has a very loud anti-lag on their turbo and it's scared lots people with the bangs, it honestly sounded like a massive ballon bursting right next to you. I love rally cars so much.

Awee thats so nice that they involved the community. Were you able to talk to the any drivers or navigators? It's so sick you got to hear an ALS, must have been quite the shock lolol. Rally cars are sooo great, I've got a small sim racing setup but it doesnt compare to the real thing xD

Yeah, my mother is actually a navigator for one of the cars, so I know a few people there, the guy that owns the car with the anti-lag is a good friend with my parents too, I think he’s had the car for more than a few years, he actually just bought a Yarris to rally in instead of that car since it’s too hard to repair. :] so yeah, I get to go the the refuels (hence the photos) to give my mother water and sometimes food and actually got to recce two stages with them before the rally.

no way?!! That's soo cool! How long has your mom been a navigator for? I bet she has lotssss of stories. It's a shame the car is hard to repair, since it seems so cool, but the yaris will be great rally car as well :]

I think my mum’s been a navigator for maybe 20 years, i’m not sure the specific time. My family’s a really car family tho, so my grandfather (mum’s dad) did motorcar, and actually built a car (not a proper car) that she and her brother raced in. And I think my great great grandmother also did racing. I know my dad is also into rallying too, he used to drive them, but know he’s just with the service crew. And yeah, my mum does have a lots of stories :] in a rally she was in just before this one, I think they had like three near misses with trees, which obviously isn’t good, but once you know exactly what happened, it’s pretty funny.
It is unfortunate that car is hard to repair, I think it’s an Evo 6 or something (I’m not sure the exact type) and their parts are hard to come by and expensive where I’m from, so rallying isn’t the best sport to drive them in. It will be sad that we no longer hear the auto-lag, but the yarris could preform better, so who knows.

woahh thats so interesting to hear, 3 near misses are quite shocking glad her race ended well! The evo 6 is such a beautiful car but I hope the yarris does well too. The way I got into motorsports was, I stumbled across an F1 Highlights video by accident a while ago but I fell in love with rallying because of the way the driver fully trusts in the navigator (and the nav trusts the driver), how well they work together in the car makes it so fascinating. Also the tracks are so cool as well. Other than rally Im also a big fan of motocross/motogp. :]]

Oh yeah, it is pretty cool just how relent the drivers are on the navigators, imagine trying to do a rally without one.
Considering that you’re into cars as well, there is a competition I would recommend you look into. It’s called the Dakar, and it’s on every January, it is televised too (at least where I am it is) it’s basically a ton of people doing a sort of rally in the Saudi Arabia desert over 12 days. There’s trucks, buggies, quad bikes, motorbikes, cars, and classic cars that compete. It’s very interesting:]

Oooh I think I've heard of it before, I didn't know it had soo many different vehicles. I'll definitely check it out! Maybe if I look hard enough I can find an archive for the competition of this years. :D

There’ll probably be YouTube videos about it if you want to start there. It a great competition. The trucks get a mechanic tobe with them as well as a navigator, and the quads and motorbikes have to be their own navigator.
