"why do you have 'chan' in your name?"
Look, I get it, using a Japanese honorific like that when you're not Japanese can seem a bit...odd, to say the least. And I know some of you have even accused me of being an "East Asian fetishizer" because of it.. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)
But the truth is, I'm Asian myself - just not Japanese specifically. And the "chan" part of my name isn't some sort of mockery or disrespect to Japanese culture. It's simply a reflection of my deep appreciation for a lot of Japanese media, aesthetics, and internet culture. ( ≧ᗜ≦)
So no, I'm not trying to appropriate Japanese identity or anything like that. I'm just a girl who loves anime, video games, etc. :P
But I know some of you have also called me "cringeworthy" for all of this. And look, I get it - my online presence can be a bit...extra, to say the least. But that's just who I am, you know? I'm not trying to put on some fake act or be something I'm not. I am Silk-Chan. (๑>◡<๑)
And frankly, the people who are the most outraged by this whole thing? They're often not even East Asian themselves. They're just these super sensitive, fragile types who get offended on behalf of others. LOL.
If you're gonna be that soft and easily triggered, maybe the internet just isn't the place for you. There are way worse things out there than a girl proudly expressing her love of anime??
Anyway, I hope that clears things up a bit. I'm not trying to offend or appropriate anyone - I'm just being my authentic self. And if you can't appreciate that, then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧
