MTV's "Downtown" 1999

  Downtown is a dramatic animated sitcom taking place in downtown New York. Chris Prynoski created the show and it ran from August 1999 to November 1999 staring 13 episodes. While 13 episodes were aired it took awhile for the thirteenth episode to air leaving a lot of fans confused. While many did not see the 13th episode, all episodes are now available on YouTube. Chris Prynoski and George Kristic were infatuated with this show as they even planned to make a second season and released a "promotional DVD" with commentary on each episode. But the second season was not created due to unknown reasons. Even though the show was cut short it has sky rocketed in popularity due to TikTok. One of the main things the show is popular is because it is known for is its "natural" feel and smooth dialogue. They achieved this by interviewing several people in downtown New York, then basing their characters and dialogue after the interviewers experiences and patterns of speech. An interesting fact was Chris was originally working on "Daria" and "Beavis and Butt-head" for MTV before he created Downtown. Later on he then created Megas XLR, Metalocolypse, Motor City, and many more works of art.

While though the show may not have been long lived, they were able to get features of Pedro Pascal, The Undertaker, and Cookie Monster.

  Depending on your POV the protagonist is either 17 year old Chaka Henson or 24 year old Alex Henson. 

  When the story revolves around Chaka she is seen getting into strange situations which are usually illegal for someone her age. These situations include getting fake ids, going to clubs, getting into fights, flirting with thieves, hopping trains, checking out spray-painting spots, or poking fun at her older brother, Alex.

  On the other side, when Alex is usually enticed by his goth girl crush, Serena, or he is focusing on his geeky collectables. Alex had a chance with Serena, yet he blew it because he was only attracted to her goth look. None of his life can seen as thrill seeking as he is sort of a coward. He is often seen with his sarcastic best friend Jen, who is totally against attractive women. While Alex and Jen have never dated, they are both aware they feel some attraction for each other. In episode eight "The Limo" they discuss how they should never hook up as that would tear apart their long lived friendship. This shows how Alex is HORRIBLE at not fumbling girls.

  The rest of the cast consists of Fruity, Matt, Mecca, Lizzie, Scott (Goat), and Leah but I don't feel like discussing them right now. I might come back and edit this to talk about their characters.
