is it me or is the whole scene vs scenecore just stupid??

(EDIT: definitely should’ve mentioned this is more aimed toward tiktok, most scene ppl outside of tiktok and even on tiktok are very chill lol)

is it just me or is the constant fighting between scene (Brokencyde, millionares, etc) and scenecore (rebzzyx, 6arleyhuman, etc) rlly stupid cause i feel like most of it is just elitist "this is REAL scene and your a poser for not listening to it" bullshit yk??????

I don't really consider scenecore music to be "scene" per se, but i feel like its sorta under the same umbrella in a way (if that makes sense), like they're both scene culture centric things and share similar elements with each other , so why would you exclude someone from being scene just cause they listen to scenecore music and not scene music??

also i could be wrong but im pretty sure scene started as more of a fashion style rather than a genre of music, as "scene' artists like brokencyde and ISMFOF is crunkcore and not actually "scene" specifically as a genre

it gives me the same vibes as metal vs metalcore

genuinely interested to hear other thoughts on this though cause this might just be a bad take on my part idk

Yeah like most "scenecore" songs are just krushclub, and i think we should just call it that because it keeps annoying scenes quiet and it's subjectively a cooler genre name

i hate when ppl call stuff like rebzyyx "scene" bc like 1. scene isnt even a music genre & ty 4 mentioning it ily 2. no hate to rebzyyx but that isnt..like stuff like thta was never correlated to the subculture back in the 2000s/early 2010s & idk why it is now

You’re pretty much right about how rebzyxx and artists alike aren’t really correlated with like the 2000’s/2010’s scene. If anything i’d consider “scenecore” as more edgier hyper pop rather than “scene music”. Of course rebzyxx isn’t my cup of tea , but i can see the appeal of theyre music n how people might see it as scene because of the BILLIONS of times i feel like scene girls are mentioned and put as album covers in “scenecore” songs ykykyk???

YESSS ive been waiting for someone to say this!1!!! ive always thought the scene vs scenecore debate is so fcking dumb.

"ur a poser if u only listen to (any artist similar to 6arelyhuman)" isnt being posers literally where scene came from????? feel free to educate me if im wrong but didnt scene kids literally come from being "emo posers"??

besides, as far as im aware there is no "scene" music. theres popular genres in the community but no 1 genre. unlike something such as emo, where the music shaped the style, with scene i believe the style shaped the music.

but again, feel free to correct me on anything!!11!!! :3

i’m not a 100% percent abt the scene coming from posers part, but srsly people get mad at others for getting into a genre and being under informed (because they JUST got into it DUH) and then wonder why “the emo/scene community is so toxic nowadays” it’s because people would rather bully and gatekeep rather than inform and just be a decent person lol

99% of scene people on tik tok arent really scene, theyre just following trends. their style isnt authentic, its not them, theyre forcing themselves into a trend they think is cool but its really not authentic. they listen to ayesha erotica and panic at the disco once and suddenly theyre scene queens

its honestly not a horrible take but there's a reason it exists.
From my perspective as someone who tries their best to be authentically scene, I notice a lot of people who claim to be scene are honestly scenecore. Instead of being someone who happens to be scene, they try WAY too hard to come off as a scene kid, and it honestly feels like more of a persona at that point rather than an actual person I'm talking to.

I don't personally believe scene is music based currently, as the reason it came back was purely because of the fashion. While 2000's scene culture meant being into thrash and crunk music, nowadays it's to emulate the fashion of 2000's scene culture.

Another thing that I feel heavily contributes to the scene v. scenecore debate is the current culture. I notice a lot of newer scene kids or younger ones joining have this misconception that EVERYONE was weird on the internet back in the day when that's literally not the case. A lot of these newgens want the aesthetics of the old internet but will get shocked when the older scene kids are saying offensive stuff, or when the scenecore artists talk about raping and overdosing on drugs. Newgen scene kids cherry pick so much and honestly, they aren't super authentic and chill they generally get worked up over things, cherry pick and put on a caricature of what they think is a scene kid. If anything, people who argue about scene vs. scenecore typically are scenecore kids themselves.

About the music though, even the current music is posery, because it follows the scenecore formula. (A caricature of scene culture.) While scene music in the 2000-10s had edgy lyrics here and there, not every song was super graphic and detailed about self-harm, overdose, rape and gore. Current scene/hyperpop scene music definitely plays into an edgy aspect, but like those try hard scene kids typing an emoticon after every sentence, they too are performing a caricature of scene culture.

I still like the current scene music, but I think what sets someone like myself apart from scenecore kids is well I don't really give a fuck about what I listen to and I dress how I want to it doesn't have to be scene 24/7 and I don't have to do "scene activities" 24/7

I totally understand ur perspective and I think it’s a pretty good one. I definitely did over look a couple of things and probably made the whole scene v. scenecore thing look a lot more simpler than the actual issue.

i do agree with ur perspective on the new gen scene kids, i didn’t really take that much into account as much has i should because i do agree that is a huge reason towards the whole issue definitely mb lol

my take really came from the perspective of music wise and not weird scenecore fans and how little of issue arguing over two types of music and one might not be “scene” in particular but have similar (but not the SAME) cultures imo, but i think ur take is definitely better if you put in the weird new gens into the perspective lol

(sorry if it’s worded bad i’m bad at typing my brain )

i mean if I have to be honest your take is very.. online? Mostly tiktok aligned. So a lot of stuff doesn't hold up because the scene community outside of tiktok usually shows off their art and their fits and is generally chill.

yeah definitely, i kinda aimed it more towards tiktok of all places, because that’s mainly where i see the whole “scene v. scenecore” stuff, because i’ve seen on other social medias where most of the scene n stuff ppl i’ve met r actually v chill n nice lol soz i prob should’ve made that more clear honestly

Wow - you worded it perfectly, I also agree with what you said :O
