riot grrrl was an underground feminist punk movement that started in the 1990's  

its a subcultural movement combines feminism, punk music, and politics.

 the punk scene serving as an inspiration for a movement in which women could express anger, rage, and frustration, emotions considered socially acceptable for male songwriters but less commonly for women 

riot grrrls address issues such as rape, domestic abuse, sexuality, racism, patriarchy, classism, anarchism, and female/fem empowerment.

riot grrrl subculture is HEAVLY involved with diy ethics, zines, art, political action, and activism.

riot grrrls are known to hold meetings, start chapters, and support and organize women in music, as well as art created by transgender people, gay individuals, lesbians, and other communities.
