dude ranch nurse - sonic youth

I was supposed to make this post over half a year ago (I literally had all this ready in my notes app) but I may or may not have forgotten to do it and then forgot about this account altogether.... anyways

 Today's musicposting is different as it's a song instead of an album!! It's Dude Ranch Nurse by Sonic Youth from my favourite album of theirs out of the ones i've listened to (sonic nurse, it's SO GOOD go listen to it), i'm just going to post my corny cheesy interpretation of the lyrics here (admittedly not a long one but still) cause literally this song makes me insane i love it so much 😭

 To start off, the song's melody and tone, the calmness of it is so full of yearning and love for the person the narrator is talking to, you can hear this especially in the guitar riff I'd say but yeah the song is just dripping with sweetness in general and I think it matches the content of the lyrics so so well. Moving on to the lyrics, I'm just gonna list some that I have interpretations for and how I see them:

 - "stolen kisses, let's pretend my friend" - "stolen kisses" like the narrator and their partner are being secretive, this adds to the intimacy of the song

 - "let's rehearse, let's do it again" - both of them are inexperienced, probably young and idk it's just a sweet intimate moment where they're not entirely sure what they're doing but that doesn't stop them from kissing each other again and again, kissing just because they like each other a lot and they can ignore the fact that both of them are likely bad at it lmao, "practicing to get better"

 - "you be cowboy and I'll allow, let me ride you till you fall" - the whole song is sweet and innocent and repeatedly just talks about kissing and then suddenly "let me ride you till you fall" which contrasts with the rest of the lyrics and feels a little out of place. I have 2 seperate interpretations for this one: the first one ties into what I said earlier about them being inexperienced, the song's subject isn't sure what they're supposed to be doing or saying and ends up saying something that sounds a bit out of place and awkward but they quickly move past it. The second one (I think I like this one a little more) is that by placing these lyrics between all the other sweet ones it shows that sex doesn't have to be something idk aggressive or serious and can be something as sweet and loving as them stealing kisses from each other

 - not a specific lyric but the medical imagery throughout the whole song (you play sick and I will mend/you be patient and I'll attend/let nurse give you a shot/I'll wrap it around with gauze, dizzy reminder) + the song title are metaphorical for wanting to take care of the other person, maybe wanting to help them get better in some way or working through their problems together, letting themselves be vulnerable and being there for each other through it all

For some reason it really reminds me of the quote "I'll take care of you.""It's rotten work.""Not to me. Not if it's you." Like they really just want the best for their partner and to take care of them no matter what and it's adorable and beautiful to me

 To summarise, this song is so dear to me and is I think my second favourite from this album, I know this interpretation was short and not that deep or anything but please believe me that the song is worth listening to give it a shot!!! <3
