This 1987 release is Buck Tick's second album and a first album on
a major label. BT are a band where, depending on how you look at them,
are either a precursor to Visual Kei or one of the first bands in the
scene; regardless they alongside BOOWY took inspiration from movements
such as New Romanticism. For the Longest Time the groups line up
remained unchanged for almost 40 YEARS! Their vocalist Atsushi Sakurai
sadly passing away last year in 2023. The other members of Buck-Tick are
Hisahi Imai on lead guitar, Hidehiko Hoshino on Rhythm Guitar, Yutaka
Higuchi on bass, and Toll Yamagi on drums. And they all play on this
album right here. But what is the album Like?
Sexual XXXXXX! is a nice enjoyable blend of Power Pop on tracks like
Sissy Boy and Dream And Truth, there's heavy punk rock elements on the
opener Empty Girl, Future For Future, the title track as well as the
closer My Eyes and Your Eyes, Post Punk on Illusion, New Wave MTV vibes
from Hyper Love, and outright typical post punk Zaniness on Do The I
Love You. Some of these songs I feel even could be classified as Surf
Punk such as Mis-Cast. Point being Every single song on this album has
something to enjoy, I personally feel that there were 60s inspirations
sprinkled throughout this entire album.
Now what do I think of this album rating wise, personally, I feel it
sits comfortable at a low 9/10. I few this album the same way as I do
the early albums by X Japan, while it is a no skips album for me, there
are some songs such as Illusion that I don't see myself listening to on
it's own. kinda like Xclamation or the intro tracks on the X albums.
