Mundane Muttering #1 | Chunithm Paradise Lost is definitely a game!

I thought it would be lame to do some weird introductory post on this new series i wanna start called "Mundane Muttering" that i just typed and is also in the subject box of this blog. It's the first thing, ya can't miss it!

To keep it brief, I feel like i talk too much about mundane things online, so I thought it would be best if I at least (try!) to keep it in one place. I decided the platform I'd be using would be SpaceHey as I need to use this website more. I won't be doing any like explanations of what I'm talking about if there need to be one, because I don't expect much if not anyone to be reading these nor would I have a consistent audience as I will definitely flip flop between my interests. That's a promise for sure! It'll probably be the only thing I promise too.

Now, on to the actual topic at hand-

Chunithm Paradise Lost is Definitely a Game!

I got into rhythm games a little over 3 years ago. I mainly play DDR, SDVX, IIDX, and I try to play other games as much as I can. In the US rhythm game scene, the big chain that everyone goes to is Round1 as they have official network support (mostly) along with many rhythm games. Sometimes there are locations that don't have games connected to their respective company's network, or have games that have been hit with the EOS hammer. Examples for the former are Chunithm Paradise Lost, and examples for the latter are Museca, Wacca, the still relatively newly added Groove Coaster and the yet to be hit with the EOS hammer game that is Chrono Circle. We can forget about the latter, and focus more on the former as it's the star subject of this entry.

Chunithm is apart of the Gekichumai/Performai series of games by SEGA. The other two games are MaiMai which as of writing this, is going through a technical test (if i remember correctly) and will be coming to Round1s across the US with network support, and the other being ONGEKI which from what I've heard, has only been in Japan for some reason. Not Japan and some other Asian countries like other rhythm games, but literally only in Japan. Like we're talking Mother 3 levels of only in Japan here!

Aside from the future that is a world where MaiMai is accessible and you DON'T have to spend a lot of money on a controller (which actually exists!) and needing a computer powerful enough to run data or sim (pick your poison!), Chunithm has been the most "accessible" of the three. And as the modern video game journalist would say, but there's a catch! The catch here is that while yes, Round1s do have Chunithm, it's a unique version of Chunithm where there's only the original songs. Nothing else. Just original songs.

I have this problem where I find it hard to get into a rhythm game if there isn't any recognizable songs like famous Vocaloid, Pop, Touhou Arrangements, or Anime licenses. This is just a me problem though, but there might be some others who have it. Point is that the song list in this unique version of chunithm is barren. As for the next thing I'm about to say, while I have no sources, I have heard that Round1 basically begged SEGA to make this version of Chunithm. For some reason, SEGA isn't wiling to go through the licensing problems that reside in the US. Japan has a much more liberal and less American music industry from what I know, but this is just talking about licensing the songs. I have not worked in either industries so I'm not talking about them as a whole. Just thought I should get that out of the way. I also wanna reiterate that this blog should not be used as a source and if I do find one, there will be a source for the rumor I just talked about.

Chunithm is definitely fun of course, and I am making the effort to play the game more, but ya gotta admit that it really does suck. Although I suppose that a certain appeal of rhythm gaming could be playing random songs you won't care for or remember afterwards, with the only important thing being the temporary vibe you feel with the music as you play. Unfortunately I thought it'd be best to keep this short, which means that I won't be getting philosophical here! For now at least.

As I listen to Nageki No Ki from beatmaniaIIDX 13 DistorteD, I do wonder if this series will be constant and consistent. This might be a one time thing only so I might be jumping the gun a bit by turning this into a series. Regardless of all that, I do hope you enjoyed this ramble

Until next time, dear reader!
