long time no see! it's been a FAT minute since ive posted a music blog and i think this is one you might appreciate; especially if youre a younger person getting into emo culture, and its criminally insane cousin, scene!
i wanted to kind go through different emo bands and then also list some crunkcore/electropop artists for the scenies :3
for my emos !!
"One Last Wish" by One Last Wish
cant be an emo blog without some good ol DC hardcore somewhere on here. although this band was equally as shortlived, the members of this band were actually in Rites of Spring before they eventually broke up and created this lovely project! this is honestly one of their most underrated projects as a group.
"True record! [Geek tears at a beautiful arpeggio]" by kudaranai1nichi
ok imma go straight from that to some japanese math rock/midwest emo because idk how they do it, but they do it better. here are some of my favorite songs :3 .... a tokyo-based band i found in 2020, when they released this album. i was scrolling a music thread on forum.chorus.fm and found this album linked by another user just spreading the word of this band's music. i humored it, even though i wasnt a huge fan of midwest emo. sent me down a rabbit hole of finding even more japanese midwest emo, even though i was already fan of their emo scene to begin with.
"O.C.D." by Haiki
another japanese gem from yokohoma, definitely a lot more melodic than kudaranai1nichi, but still much similar in rawness and emotion (much to be expected in emo). not entirely sure how i found out about this band but i do know that i was obsessed with this song for the entirety of 2018-2019, because of a recent breakup i had. as a intermediate japanese speaker, this song really spoke to me, mostly due to its message behind suffering with relationships while having a mental illness. mental illness, although growing in discussion, is definitely a subject that is often ignored in japanese society.
"Remember" by Burden Of A Day
ok ok ok ill add some metalcore. i like this band, they definitely deserved more hype as musicians. i think a huge part of why they didnt get that big is because they didnt crab walk in their music video hard enough. its there, but they didnt try hard enough. in terms of sound, this band is very similar to bands like Greeley Estates or even a first album A Skylit Drive. either way, this song slaps. as for their current state, their last show was in 2010 and they have zero plans for the project. however, two former members have started on another project called "colours" and their latest release was this year so... have fun with that information.
"Oh Dear, Now I'm Sure, I Hate You" by The Electric Diorama
one of the only post-hardcore bands to make even the slightest traction on myspace (especially since apparently italian emos on social networks at the time enjoyed emocore more than this) and one the most underrated bands ive ever had the pleasure of listening to. the song title reminds me of an alesana song............... ANYWAYS. i think they have a pretty unique sound but if i had to pick a band similar to them, it would be early Enter Shikari and even early Attack Attack. much crabcore, but no crabs in sight....?
"The Worst Part Is Waking Up" by This Romantic Tradegy
imma say it now before anyone else does, they were definitely inspired by blessthefall, or attack attack. and if they werent, my whole life is a lie. i swear idk how many times i streamed this on my gen 5 ipod in 2011 because its easily in the four-digits. the album this song is on is pretty damn good too. MORE CRABCORE. but not nearly as crabby as stick stickly. nobody can outcrab that methinks.
for my scenies !
"Show Me Th[e/a] Money" by Gunnuh
if you hate repetitive music, youre gonna hate this whole album. literally every single song uses the same back track but theyre all fire so its okay. and.... fun fact..... this is actually J Bigga's other project.. that got zero traction..... surprise! anyways its decent crunkcore, not the best; but since when was crunkcore supposed to be good anyway? it slaps.
"Awakening" by SlowMotionNoise
like most edm/pop millenial artists, their early shit was reminiscent of MYSPACE BANGERS. some came out bad, some came out amazing, and some came out extremely underrated... AND SEAN SHERIDAN IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS. although i much prefer SMN's music, i do like sean's solo music too. this song is my favorite by far.
ok awesome amazing thanks for taking the time to listen to these epic artists/projects....... i hope i opened some new doors for you as a music enjoyer B) lmk if you want more blogs like this :D
