Watching The Lost World movie after reading the book is almost disappointing. I used to love this movie, but the book was SO different, and had way more depth and interesting plotlines. The characters and their actions made sense and were well thought out. Except for a few scenes, the entire story was pretty much changed for the movie and I really think it's a shame.
I also can't stand movie Sarah Harding, I feel like she goes against everything book Sarah stands for. Like, it's just really strange to me that she would go to the island willingly, and even rope Ian into going while knowing what happened to him.
Plus she just doesn't come across as the smart, strong character she is in the books. This is a woman who has been studying predators in Africa for 10 years, who knows basically everything there is to know about animal behaviour. And the first thing we see her do in the movie is go up to a baby stegosaurus and pet it, obviously angering the parents. Book Sarah just wouldn't do something so stupid. Not to mention that it even goes against what Hammond said about her a few scenes before that. "She's like Diane Fossey, all observation with no interference" yet here she is interfering.
Oh and the shooting location is way too obviously just some forest, it's not giving jungle AT ALL. I really think that does take your focus off the film. It was more action-based, seemingly focusing on making a story where they could get the best and most thrilling dino scenes, but that sadly diminishes the amazing storyline the book had.
All in all, still an enjoyable film but I liked the book wayyyy better
