06// neutron stars

hallo :D

A neutron star is born after a massive star dies and explodes in a supernova.

A neutron star is made out of neutron degenerate gas, containing less than 3 SM. If the mass goes beyond this limit, it'll become a black hole. We call this the Tolman–Oppenheimer–Volkoff limit.

Neutron stars are approx. 10-20km in diameter. They have an atmosphere, but it's only about 1m high. Underneath there's a solid surface, but most of the star is neutron degenerate gas.

Neutron stars have an intense gravitational and magnetic field - this is caused by the huge star being pushed into a much smaller object. The magnetic field becomes more massive and intense.

The magnetic field turns neutron stars into pulsars. Every pulsar is a neutron star, but not every neutron star has to be a pulsar.

Pulsars are just rotating neutron stars that emit electromagnetic radiation.

feel free to add stuff/correct me!
