A quick rant on youtube censoring mature topics (TW: Nothing specific, just generally disturbing topics)

When taken at face value its easy to see why youtube dislikes these words. As a company that sells its services to advertisers, its natural that they would be bound to their will (Not wanting to be associated with sensitive topics).

On the other hand, youtube, instagram, and tik tok, are multinational platforms, they have strong societal influence, especially on younger audiences. Though youtube claims its so hard on sensitive words to "keep the kids safe" (Bullshit), I believe it has the opposite effect. By replacing words such as suicide with "self-game ended", it strips the terms of any seriousness. This leads to serious scenarios being abstracted in our minds (especially young adults) as though they are a far away reality. This includes news articles that replaces words like "rape" with "forced to have sex with".

Furthermore, it is difficult, if not impossible, to figure out at what point a word is being used wrongfully (encouraging someone to commit suicide) vs being used in good faith (the unfortunate suicide of someone). It might seem like an obvious distinction at first, but video sharing platforms have to moderate billions of videos uploaded by users worldwide. In that sense its understandable to outright ban those words, but it is hypocritical of them to allow replacements like "forcefully game ended" to mention the unfortunate murder of a mother's kids. Either ban the topic, letting kids learn about it later in life IN A PROPER MANNER, or let adults acknowledge the seriousness behind it among each other.

This is all my opinion; I have not read any sources. What do you guys think?
