If you haven't yet seen (which I would not blame you for, since it has mostly been in the comments of other posts and also in my own bulletins), I have started adding a little sign-off every time I post literally anything !! I thought it would give my stuff here a bit of a personal touch so it was worth the little extra effort of typing and stuff! I am probably going to add the sign-off to my old entries for consistency sake, but you can take this entry as my official (more) public announcement of my decision!! ^^ I took a bit of time when I woke up to read some more of kitchen, just enough to stop right before the short story, "Moonlight Shadow" (yes, like the Jyushi Aimomo solo haha). I think the writing of the work is very accessible and it really is the fastest that I have progressed through a piece of literature in a while that wasn't CSM, but I really do have my criticisms of the work's portrayal of trans people, specifically transfems. I found the way that the cis characters would talk about the transfem characters, especially Eriko, to be extremely disrespectful and transmisogynistic. It doesn't escape me that this is a realistic portrayal of not just how Japanese cis people talk about trans women but especially at a time like the late 80s, but even in that context we are allowed to critique literature in our own personal feelings and contexts. I will have to say that the portrayal of said transfems is very sympathetic (to my knowledge) and very clearly coming from a good place though!! If you want to know what my study plans are today btw, it's that I have to complete the section on Abductive Reasoning and also summarize / study parts of Jennifer Nagel's "Searching for Knowledge."
