in recent times, youtube looks to be testing out restricted video watching when locked out - and by that i mean you can't watch youtube without an account. i think?
this was supposed to combat bots or something, but this also comes with a downside, that being youtube to mp3/4 converters have been broken.
i found this out myself when using cobalt.tools to convert a song (youre so creepy by ghost town, go check it out its awesome) so i could listen to it on loop in the bg and i got an error. id used a topic video so i figured it was probably returning the error because of that, but when i used a normal video it returned the same error, so i clicked track this issue on github on the error popup and lo and behold, all yt to mp converters do not work anymore.
this also spreads to discord music bots too, since they also don't use accounts to fetch music
what can you do if you really really want a video to be downloaded on your computer then? well, cobalt supports a wide variety of platforms, so i'd reccomend to try finding the video on one of the other platforms it supports (about >> supported services). so like if you want music, find it on soundcloud. etc etc.
anywgays when yt stops doing this bullshit i BEG YOOOUUU just use cobalt
i am not well versed with like. any of the terms used in the github discussion most of it just kind of got grinded into a paste in my brain but i was able to get the gist of it, yt has added a system that consequentially bricks yt to mp3 converters.
