best free phone games imo (as in FREE so no in game purchases and no ads):
mindustry - imagine factorio but tower defense
shattered pixel dungeon - best roguelike I've ever played
SuperTuxKart - kinda like Mario Kart? (I know Mario Kart Tour exists but this plays more like the console version with different modes and stuff)
Unciv - if you like games like civilization this is the free open source version of Civ 5 (battle for polytopia is also free and of a similar genre and easier to play on mobile but it has ads and in app purchases)
minetest - free minecraft pretty much
Phigros - BEST RHYTHM GAME EVER (WAAY better than OSU, though there's also a mobile port of OSU if you really want to play OSU instead)
Falling Lightblocks - Best Tetris game on phone if you love Tetris like me(they removed it from the app store but you can download it on itch.io)
You can also download console emulator and play console games on your phone (I would reccomend RetroArch, also completely free). Many DS games play really well on phone (Pokémon, Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick, Inazuma Eleven and Professor Layton to give you some examples) because smartphones have touch screen.

honkai: star rail, albeit a gacha game, it's turn based and has a VERY cool story!
